Bear joined the Pass Academy staff in 2000 to help develop top nationally ranked juniors. In 2002 and 2003 he was also the assistant coach of the American University Men’s tennis team. During these 2 years AU reached it’s highest ever ITA ranking at #68 in 2003.
A 1998 graduate of the University of Virginia, with a degree in psychology, Bear was the #1 singles player and part of the #1 doubles team on the Cavalier tennis team. He was a two time All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) selection and captained the team in his last two seasons. He also was the recipient of the Dan Lehman Doubles Award in 1996.
In his junior tournament career Bear earned the #1 ranking in the Mid-Atlantic Tennis Association (MATA) in Boys 18’s and was ranked as high as #25 nationally. He was also part of the #4 ranked team in the country in 1994.

Steve Miguel has been with Pass Academy for over 30 years as a student and then as a coach. A graduate from The Ohio State University where he played top seed for all 4 years. Steve was chosen for the Big Ten All Conference Team and was honored as a member of the “All Century Team”.
At Pass Academy Steve is responsible for developing nationally ranked junior and college players. “Steve has a unique ability to coach at all levels, a high level of understanding of the game, an aptitude to help improve any player regardless of play style,” Justin Shane UVA. Steve has been fortunate to have coached the 2015 Men’s NCAA Champion, All-Americans in Division 1 and Division 3 in the NCAA. Some of these players have competed at the professional level. With a love for tennis and a passion for coaching Steve enjoys working with kids and adults of all levels.

Aaron Gomez

Played at VA Tech on a top 15 NCAA team Top 30 Junior in National Boys’ 18s and 16s, #1 in Mid-Atlantic in Boys’ 18s and 16s Pass Academy alumnus. Aaron works primarily with competitive players. He helps his students identify their playing style based on their strengths. He also teaches them the value of hard work to improve their strengths. Aaron believes that when his students combine discipline and commitment to playing with a purpose, they can achieve excellence.
